From vision to vessel

A boat imagined by Jimmy—and engineered to go farther.

Jimmy Buffett wanted to turn overnight runs into day trips without sacrificing comfort, protection or serious offshore capability. Freeman Boatworks, Merritt’s Boats and Engine Works and Captain Vinnie LaSorsa translated that brief into the Last Mango.

    Jimmy’s brief

Create a protected, comfortable vessel capable of crossing to the Bahamas in choppy conditions or running north to chase giant bluefin tuna—without surrendering the speed that makes a long trip possible in a day.

    The Freeman foundation

Freeman Boatworks supplied the 42-foot catamaran platform: a stable, high-performance offshore foundation selected to carry Jimmy’s idea beyond a conventional center-console layout.

    Merritt’s craftsmanship

Merritt’s Boats and Engine Works helped transform the platform with a custom enclosed pilothouse and the finish, systems and protection required for a truly one-of-one sportfishing boat.

    Captain Vinnie’s through-line

Jimmy’s longtime captain, Vinnie LaSorsa, helped translate the dream into a working brief and guided the collaboration from idea to a boat built for real adventures with family, friends and crew.

Our story

Where it all began…

Jimmy Buffett dreamed of a vessel capable of turning overnight trips into day trips while keeping himself and guests comfortable and out of the elements—a boat that could cross to the Bahamas on choppy days or chase giant bluefin tuna in the canyons of the Northeast. With Merritt’s Boats and Engine Works and Freeman Boatworks, that vision came to life in collaboration with his longtime captain, Vinnie LaSorsa.

As word of the legendary custom build spread, fans wanted a way to connect with Jimmy Buffett’s dream boat and began asking for the apparel and gear worn by the Last Mango crew. The crew made that gear available online and committed profits from sales to charities they believe make a meaningful difference.

The goal is to make every Last Mango customer part of something bigger than a brand. A purchase welcomes you into the Last Mango family and joins the effort to support charities that make a difference—to collectively #SeeTheGoodSide.
